5. I individually price for my photos and shoots - can Pro Galleries handle this? Back to top

ProGalleries allows you to control the price of photographs on a per-album basis. You create price lists that set the retail price of certain products (4x6”, 8x10”, 20x30”, etc). This can be as standard or as individual as you like. FUJIFILM Aust Australia deducts its commissions from this total price, and you retain the difference. The price list calculator shows you the wholesale price, and allows you to set the consumer price as you see fit.

6. What are the costs of commissions? Back to top

The commissions deducted from the price the consumer pays are a total of the bank fees, a 25% fee to FUJIFILM Aust for the Pro Galleries service, the delivery charge and the wholesale price of the prints. The remainder is credited to the Pro.

7. Where do my photos get printed? Back to top

You choose a FujiColor lab from our list of Pro Galleries partner labs, set whether the customer sees details of that lab and is allowed to “pick up” their prints from the lab, and we handle the rest! Transferring, printing and even delivery if you choose.

8. How do I upload files? Back to top

  1. Firstly make sure you are logged in, by going to the ProGalleries Professional Site, and logging in
  2. From your Homepage, choose whether you want to create a new album, or add to existing album.

  7. Add captions to your photos and select a cover for your album, if you wish. This can be done later by viewing the photos, or choosing Album properties

9. How do I set the prices on the albums I've uploaded? Back to top

You must create a price list before you can offer anything for sale.

  • Once you’re logged in, you must go to Settings then click on the price list tab.
  • You can then select a Pro Lab partner for fulfilment (if not already done).
  • Click on the Add Price List button and enter a name for the price list (you can create and save as many as you need).
  • Fill in the prices for the products you wish to sell online. Be sure to save the pricelist when you are finished. Leave the prices blank for any products you don’t wish to make available for that price list.

10. I looked at my albums and the products are all listed for sale at the wholesale prices! What's going on? Back to top

When you are logged in as a Pro Galleries Member, you can purchase your own photographs at the lab’s wholesale prices. To see your album as your customer will, please be sure to log out then go to your homepage.
Note: If the album is By Invitation Only it’s a bit trickier to see your albums as a visitor! You must send an invitation to an email address that is different then the one you log into Pro Galleries with and click on the invite link.

11. Can I choose which products are available for sale? Back to top

Yes, simply create a price list which only includes prices for the products you wish to offer in that album. Items without a price listed will not be offered to your customers.

12. Where will my images get printed? Back to top

All images will get fulfilled at the lab you selected in the Create Price List section.
Note: You can only select one lab at a time for all price lists and changing labs will delete all existing price lists and set all albums to Not for Sale.

13. Can I see my images before they are sent to the customer? Back to top

Not usually, but you can make arrangements directly with some of our Pro Galleries partner labs to arrange for alternate fulfilment processes.

14. Can I alter the packaging and/or include promotional materials with the order? Back to top

Please contact your Pro Galleries partner lab to discuss how they can support alternate packaging etc.

15. Where can I see the Pro Lab wholesale prices? Back to top

You can see the different wholesale price lists when you originally select your Pro Lab in the Create Price Lists section. You can check several labs by selecting them and creating a sample price list.

16. Which Pro Labs are currently offering online fulfilment services for Pro Galleries? Back to top

During the launch phase, we are evaluating, selecting and training Pro Labs as quickly as feasible. Please contact the support team for an up to date list of labs available.

17. I'm worried about my images being on the Internet. Can't people download them? Back to top

ProGalleries does not allow anyone to view the source files of your images, only preview small versions that are not of a printable quality. Your digital images are never sent to the customer, they only receive the high-quality prints that they pay for.

18. What file formats does Pro Galleries accept? Back to top

Currently, Pro Galleries accepts only JPEG images, which usually have a .jpg or .jpeg file extension.

19. Is there any limit on file size? Back to top

Yes, currently 5mb as a maximum file size, and 100mb as a maximum total upload. This is mostly in your interests, as these images can take a significant time to transfer, even across broadband connections, and for our servers to process them into preview images (thumbnails)

20. What is the optimum size and format for uploading images? Back to top

There are 3 variables you can adjust that affect final image file size.
Obviously the most important variable is the quality of the image itself. Proper focus, contrast, colour balance, exposure and sharpness must all be present to produce a quality print.
The second factor is the dimensions (or size in pixels) of the digital image. For 8x10 size prints, this should be at least 1850 pixels on the maximum dimension. The image size affects the final resolution of (or DPI) of the print. Obviously an image with a resolution of 3 Megapixels (approx 2000x1500) or larger can produce a better print. A 4 to 6 MegaPixel image (2500x1900 to 3000x2000) can produce much larger prints of very high quality.
The third factor affecting print quality is the JPEG compression applied. JPEG compression can significantly reduce the file size of a digital image without changing the image dimensions. Unfortunately with all good things (small file size) there is a trade-off. Large amounts of JPEG compression can create artefacts (or undesirable features) in an image. The trick is to apply the maximum amount of compression possible without adversely affecting the image quality.
Our experiments have shown that it is more effective to save images with a larger pixel count and more JPEG compression for a given file size. For example a 1200x800 pixel image at “Maximum” quality may produce a 1Mb file size. A 2000x1600 pixel image saved at “High” quality may also be 1MB in file size but the quality of an 8x10 print will be much better with the larger dimension image even though it was saved at lower JPG quality.
Let’s say you have a 6 megapixel camera which produces highest quality (fine at 3072 x 2048) JPEGs at about 2.5 Mb. You could upload 20 photos as is to ensure you get the highest quality available from your camera. This results in a 50MB upload – about 1 hour upload on a cable modem! Alternatively you could resave the photos at a slightly higher JPG compression (lower quality) to achieve a filesize of 1.3MB and cut your upload time in half! For 8x12s or even 10x15s it’s unlikely your customers would notice the difference.

21. I don't believe that 5MB is large enough to produce the large sizes my Pro Galleries lab can produce. Back to top

If your images are to be used for gallery quality large format prints, 5MB may not be enough. An example of this may be large format panorama poster size prints, with a selling price in the hundreds or thousands of dollars. It is likely that 50MB or greater TIFFs were created by scanning medium or large format transparencies and your customers expect the quality they see in your physical Gallery when they order works online You can make arrangements with most ProGalleries participating labs to supply a CD with high resolution image files which can then be used to produce large print sizes. Simply upload small images for viewing online and ensure your lab has the required files on CD for production work.

22. Why don't you take TIFF images? Back to top

The TIFF image format stores images with no compression. This offers the best possible quality as no image quality is lost during compression, but unfortunately creates very large file sizes. The file sizes created are too large for transmission over the internet and the small (and often insignificant) quality lost by saving files as High quality JPEGs far outweighs the large file sizes demanded by TIFF.

23. How can I reduce the size of my images and or change the file type from TIFF or others to JPEG? Back to top

You can use an image-editing program such as Adobe Photoshop or Microsoft Picture It to convert, resize and or save with more compression as JPEGs.
Many image editing programs provide batch-type functionality to automate the conversion of many images at once. This is very convenient for large numbers of images you wish to prepare for upload.
Please see the documentation or online help provided with your image editing package for further details.

24. Are there any automatic image adjustments or corrections to the images that I upload? Back to top

Files are printed exactly as they are uploaded, with no image adjustments unless you negotiate directly with your lab for pre printing adjustments. However, you can apply some limited adjustments after uploading (see below).

25. Can I apply any image adjustments after uploading? Back to top

Yes, Pro Galleries provides a number of image editing effects that you can add to your photos. To do this, follow this procedure:

  • Log in, then select an image from one of your albums
  • Click on the Edit Image button.
  • Choose an effect on the right to edit your photo for cropping, etc and be sure to save the image. You cannot overwrite an existing image, so feel free to experiment with the different effects.

26. How do I change my personal welcome photo/message on my Homepage? Back to top

You can change the logo, photo and text on your home page:

  1. Click on the Properties tab above your cover photo.
  2. Edit your welcome message in the field provided.
  3. Change your home page photo:
    a. Choose the album from where the new photo is to come from.
    b. Choose the photo from the Photo field.
    c. Choose a Home page Theme (colours and patterns that influence how the home page appears)
    d. Click Save.

27. What is the upload time on the files? Back to top

Upload times depend on a large number of factors, including

  1. The speed of your internet connection. Modems are usually from 28kbit/Second to 56kbit/Second. ISDN can be from 64kbit/Second to 1024kbit/Second. Cable modems can be up to 1.5MBit/Second, and ADSL can be faster. The higher the number, usually the higher the speed of the link, and the faster the files will transfer.
  2. The size of the image. ProGalleries limits files to 5Mbytes each, and the smaller the file, the less time it will take to transfer.
  3. Number of images. Obviously, more files take longer.
  4. General Internet traffic at the time the files are transferring. This is an item that we cannot really affect – for example. if there is a new Madonna Video clip released on the Internet today, there is likely to be much more traffic than at other times – your “bits” will have to wait their turn.

Typical upload time for a 1 MByte of image data across different connection links
 Connection Speeds   Estimated Time
 ADSL - 512/128  2 minutes 20 seconds
 ADSL - 1500/256  42 seconds
 ADSL - 2Mbps/384kbps  35 seconds
Cable Modems- Telstra  1 minutes 20 seconds
Cable Modems - Optus  1 minutes 15 seconds
 Modem - 56.6kbps  4 minutes 40 seconds
 Modem - 33.3kbps  6 minutes 40 seconds
